Anthony Pompliano, a well-known cryptocurrency evangelist and host of a popular podcast with 1.7 million followers on X, is poised to become CEO of a new bitcoin-focused investment vehicle aiming to raise $750 million to buy digital assets.

The Deal: ProCapBTC and Columbus Circle Capital 1

Pompliano is in advanced talks to head ProCapBTC, a company set to merge with Columbus Circle Capital 1, a newly listed SPAC backed by boutique investment bank Cohen & Company. The transaction aims to raise $500 million in equity and $250 million in convertible debt.

The combined entity would emulate bitcoin-buying strategies popularized by Michael Saylor’s MicroStrategy and Japan’s Metaplanet, converting traditional cash reserves into bitcoin holdings.

Crypto IPO Boom Amid Pro-Trump Sentiment

The deal comes amid a resurgence of investor enthusiasm in crypto-related firms, driven partly by Donald Trump’s pro-crypto stance during his second presidential term. Companies like Trump Media, Circle, Gemini, and Bullish have recently filed or completed IPOs in a rapidly heating digital asset market.

Columbus Circle Capital 1 itself raised $250 million in its IPO in late May, underscoring investor appetite for crypto exposure through traditional markets.

Pompliano’s Broader Investment Moves

While the ProCapBTC deal is still being finalized, Pompliano has also separately raised $220 million for a different SPAC, although that vehicle is not linked to the bitcoin-buying venture.
