Animoca Brands, a prominent Hong Kong-based investor in cryptocurrency and blockchain-based gaming, is eyeing a potential listing in the United States. This move comes after former President Donald Trump’s more lenient stance on digital assets, offering an “unique moment” for companies like Animoca to tap into the largest capital market in the world.
Animoca’s Ambitious Move to List in the US
Yat Siu, the Chairman of Animoca Brands, revealed that the company plans to go public in New York in the near future. The company is currently considering various shareholder structures, and the listing is not expected to depend on market conditions. Animoca’s valuation surged to nearly $6 billion following a series of fundraising rounds in 2022, and since then, the value of digital assets, including Bitcoin, has soared.

Trump’s Crypto-Friendly Policies Attract Investors
Trump’s commitment to turning the United States into a global hub for digital assets and his regulatory approach has already drawn significant interest from international companies. Notably, the world’s largest cryptocurrency options exchange, Deribit, is among those that have shifted operations to the U.S. Under Trump’s leadership, Bitcoin has risen over 50%, surpassing $102,000, following the election in November.
Trump’s relaxed stance contrasts sharply with that of his predecessor, Joe Biden, who oversaw numerous lawsuits and criminal cases against cryptocurrency companies, which deterred many firms from operating in the U.S.

Animoca’s Competitive Edge in the U.S. Market
Siu highlighted that under Biden’s administration, the crackdown on digital assets had stifled innovation in the U.S., which ultimately benefited foreign companies like Animoca. A year ago, Animoca would not have considered a U.S. listing, but now, it has become an essential part of their strategic roadmap. Siu expressed that the U.S. market remains the largest and represents a rare opportunity for Animoca, as it would normally face stiff competition from major local players.

Expanding Presence and Future Prospects
Animoca has been exploring the possibility of returning to the public market since last year. The company had been delisted from the Australian Stock Exchange in 2020 due to concerns about the governance and legality of some of its cryptocurrency assets. Since then, Animoca has expanded its business into digital assets, consulting services, and investments in high-profile companies such as OpenSea and Kraken.
The company also anticipates growth from the upcoming launch of major gaming titles like Grand Theft Auto 6, providing further opportunities to integrate cryptocurrency payments into games, potentially boosting revenue from Animoca’s investments.

Strong Financial Position
Animoca posted a profit of $97 million from a revenue of $314 million for the year ending December, an increase from $34 million on $280 million the previous year. The company’s balance sheet includes nearly $300 million in cash and stablecoins, as well as $538 million in digital assets.
Conclusion
Animoca’s decision to pursue a U.S. listing reflects the growing confidence in the crypto market under Trump’s leadership. As the company continues to expand its portfolio and explore new opportunities, its public debut could mark a significant milestone in bridging the gap between traditional finance and the burgeoning digital asset ecosystem.
